The New Apple Watch is always listening now

But why?

So the 2026 Apple Watch has 'Audio Intelligence', which includes two contentious features: Siri Recap and Live Rewind.

Siri Recap

Siri Recap is introduced as, and I quote:

an audio intelligence feature [that] will help you remember key moments from daily conversations so you can be more present and engaged. [...] It uses ambient listening to take high-level notes of your conversations, like takeaways from a team meeting or a parent-teacher conference.

This happens 24/7, and summaries are saved in the Siri app.

But if someone is "present and engaged", would they really need help "remembering key moments"? What were they distracted by if they couldn't even remember the key moments of a conversation? If anything, this feature seems to serve the opposite function – allow people to daydream and rely on Siri to catch them up after.

If anyone needed help, it would be with the details. But Apple couldn't possibly allow Siri to record the details of every single thing around the user by default because that would be a huge invasion of privacy.

Luckily, a product that does this situationally already exists. It's called a voice recorder. Every phone already has one, and I'm willing to bet most people have never even used that app on their phone (because who ever has time to revisit past conversations)?

Live Rewind

Live Rewind allows you to retrieve a transcript of what has been said around you in the last 15 seconds.
