Why everyone wants you to embrace AI
Microsoft has apparently renamed their iconic 'Microsoft Office' to ‘Microsoft 365 Copilot app’. It just rolls off the tongue really.
Embedding their AI Copilot into the name of the product itself shows just how committed they are to this whole AI revolution thing.
In fact, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently made a blogpost1 that was most definitely written by a human. In it, he said that we should ‘get beyond arguments of slop vs sophistication’ and asserts that AI tools are ‘cognitive amplifiers’.
Now, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone calling AI outputs ‘sophisticated’ in recent history. Perhaps when ChatGPT first came out 3 years ago, the fact that it could seemingly hold a conversation with you would have been considered sophisticated.
Plenty of people, on the other hand, have called AI outputs ‘slop’. In fact, slop is Merriam Webster’s 2025 word of the year 2.
So it seems that Nadella is acknowledging AI is flooding the world with slop and is trying to downplay that fact.
Of course, we see AI being pushed everywhere.
Google and Microsoft and Facebook have dedicated buttons or search bars for AI.
When those don’t work, they forcefully integrate them into the default search bars so you HAVE to use them.
