What writers can learn from photography
I’ve been through phases in my life where I was really into photography. I’ve never owned a proper camera though; they were always too expensive for my liking.
A lot of what I learned about photography was instead through phone cameras. I did so much research on additional lenses for my phone camera and even bought a phone case that could equip those lenses and a bunch of accessories.
Aaand ironically, I never ended up buying a single lens to use with that case.
But I did learn that you can take some amazing shots on a regular smartphone camera if you know what you’re doing.
These were all taken with a mid-range smartphone camera from 2019 (OnePlus 6T).
I’m no pro, but these still look pretty awesome to me (but cut me some slack if you disagree).
Well fast forward to 2026, and I’ve got more of a need to get back into photography for my business.
So I was watching this video1 and the creator made an excellent point about the principles of photography.
